NFL Fantasy Football: Why Drafting Running Backs has Become Important

People who bet on sports often find themselves getting involved in one or more fantasy football leagues. The deceiving thing about fantasy football is that it is all about the players and not the teams. You could draft the best receiver on the worst team in football for your NFL fantasy team and that receiver could still put a lot of points on the board for you. The most popular first round pick for fantasy owners has traditionally bet the QB. But as time has gone by, many owners are starting to realize that the RB may be the better first round pick.

Fantasy owners do not care about Super Bowl odds because their season is over long before the Super Bowl. But in a 10-team fantasy league, every team has to find two running backs to start and only one quarterback. If you can get two top 10 running backs on your roster, then those running backs could outscore your one quarterback. But that is difficult in a 10-team league, especially if you use your first round pick on a quarterback.

Many of the top quarterbacks that run up the NFL scores will still be available in the second round. You need to use your first round pick on a running back. Depending on how the draft goes, you could also use your second round pick on a running back and then get your quarterback in the third round. If your league has more than 10 teams, then the importance of picking a running back first is heightened because the top 20 backs could be gone by the second or third round.

NFL Fantasy Draft Terminology

Sport betting online enthusiasts love fantasy sports because it gives them a chance to put together their ideal team and then put that team up against a league of ideal teams. Before you get involved in a fantasy football league, it would help to have an understanding of some of the important terminology that the price per head sports experts and fantasy football league commissioners use.

The draft is one of the most anticipated parts of being in a fantasy football league. Most leagues use what is known as a serpentine draft system. This is a system where the draft order is determined by a method agreed to by all of the team owners, and then the draft order reverses every other round. The team with the first pick in the first round of a 12-team league would have the 12th pick in the second round. An automatic draft is a draft where the team owners agree to allow the website hosting the league to make the picks. But most leagues go with a live draft where all owners are online at the same time and making their own picks.

Once the draft is over you can waive a player, trade a player or pick a player up on waivers. In the fantasy football world, waivers is a place where injured or underperforming players go. It is also where an owner can gain access to the players that were not drafted. For example, if a quarterback is not posting the NFL scores that a fantasy owner wants to see, then that owner can drop the quarterback to waivers and pick up another quarterback that was not drafted by any team. The owner could also suggest a trade to other owners instead of using waivers.

NFL Fantasy Football Draft Advice

Many people who bet on sports also enjoy getting involved in fantasy football leagues. It is a fun way to develop an even deeper interest in the NFL and it could also make you a few bucks as well.

One of the most important rituals in fantasy football is the draft. The fantasy football experts have the draft down to a science. But for those that are not quite as experienced in how to maximize a fantasy draft, here is some advice.

- You will see a lot of the fantasy experts investing in bookie software that gives them every stat and fact about every player in the league. You are only really dealing in a small percentage of the players in the league, so you can get away with using the fantasy trackers on major websites.

- Unless one of the top two quarterbacks in the league is available when you pick, then you need to pick the best running back available with your first selection. Good running backs accumulate rushing and passing yards and can be extremely value on your team.

- Remember that the defense you choose does not necessarily have to be one of the top three defenses in the league. You want a defense that is good at taking the ball away. Look for that opportunistic defense that will help you rack up points during the season.

- If the best wide receiver in the league and the best quarterback in the league are available when you pick, then you need to take the wide receiver. You can probably get a good quarterback in the second round, but wide receivers go fast.
